Tips To Get Rid Of Mice

Posted on: 22 April 2017

Mice are disgusting rodents that invade your home without any regard for personal space. They'll climb over every single thing you own, including your cooking utensils, toothbrush, and nearly every other surface and object inside your home. Sounds gross, right? You don't want these pests taking over your home, and if you've seen one, there's probably more friends of his in your home. See below for tips to get rid of mice and keep them out.

Clean House

Mice are coming into your home for one reason: food. Clean up your home to get rid of crumbs off of your floor and countertops. Use bleach wipes to remove anything stuck on your counters (or acetone on granite counters for a more thorough clean). Wipe up pantry shelves and spice cabinets as well that may have some crumbs or granules of spices lying around.

Put Food Away

Put away food on the counters that you normally keep outsuch as bananas and other fruits or vegetables, as well as breads. Food in your pantry should be put in sealed plastic totes and containers to make it a little more difficult for mice to smell out.

Set Traps

Start setting traps to get rid of any mice you have in your home already. You can purchase all types of traps at your local hardware store, including ones that are more humane. When setting traps, use bait that will attract the mice such as peanut butter or cheese. Avoid using any types of poisons if you have small children or pets, and be sure to keep any and all traps where children and pets in your home cannot get to them. After catching mice, be sure to dispose of them properly. Any mice left alive should be removed from your home carefully, or left to a professional, as these pests can carry disease. Seal Holes

Mice can cause quite a bit of damage to your home when trying to get in and can get into small holes the size of their skulls. Seal any and all holes around your home that you think mice can be getting into using steel wool to fill the holes, then silicone to cover the hole. Seal holes around your foundation, in your siding, in your drywall, and anywhere else around your home.

Call A Professional

If you're in over your head with an infestation, call a professional to help you. They have the tools and know-how to get rid of these pests for good. Keep your home clean, put food away, and set traps if you notice any signs of mice in your home. If you have a lot of mice, or need help in any way, call a professional exterminator to get rid of these rodents.
