Keeping Pigeons From Harrassing Your Storefront

Posted on: 19 January 2018

If you have a storefront that seems to be under constant attack from pigeons, then you want to do your best to keep them away. Your customers aren't going to like having pigeon poop get on them when they are trying to go in or out of your place of business. Also, a lot of pigeons hanging around the front of your store can leave a horrible mess that can really take from the look of your place. Your customers and your employees will even have the added concern of having the pigeons messing up their vehicles when they are parked outside of your place. Here are some of the things you can do to help protect your storefront from pigeons:

Discourage people from feeding the pigeons

You want to discourage people from feeding the pigeons in front of your store front. If you sell food goods, then it may directly be your customers that are giving them food and making the problem worse. However, the problem may be coming from a neighboring business if they are the ones that are selling the food goods. Get your neighbors on board with helping out with getting rid of the excessive pigeon population.

You can put out signs asking people not to feed the birds

The first thing you want to do is to put signs out front asking people not to feed the birds. However, you do need to be prepared for the fact that a lot of people won't follow this written request. Although, the few people who do listen will help you achieve your goal of lessening the bird population.

Put a canopy up

You should have a canopy installed to cover the front area of your place of business. This is going to protect your sidewalk, any seating or décor you have out front, and your customers from being bombed by the pigeons. When the pigeons are on the eaves and they go to the bathroom, it will end up on the canopy. You will have the added maintenance of having the canopy cleaned regularly.

Put up a bird spike stripping

One very effective way for you to cut down on the number of pigeons bothering your storefront is to have bird spike strips put up along the edge of the roof. This will make it so the pigeons will no longer be able to find a comfortable place to perch. They will need to travel somewhere else in order to find a place to gather, which means they won't be bothering you.
