Moles Leaving Your Yard A Disaster? What You Can Do

Posted on: 1 August 2022

Moles are a small cute, furry mammal that has a stub tail and lives beneath the ground in tunnels. It uses its claws to dig its way into the dirt and to create these tunnels in which to live. They can live above the surface of the ground as well, and you may find them in your garage or shed areas, or anywhere they can find food easily. These pests eat insects, worms, spiders, snails, and a variety of other pests they can find inside the ground. If you have moles, a telltale sign is they leave their mark in your yard, as the tunnels they build can create raised burrows in your yard. They can leave your yard unsightly, which is one of the reasons to get rid of them. Read on for some tips to help you exterminate these pests from your yard.

Set Traps

Specialized mole traps can be found at your local hardware store. They are inserted into the ground and into one of the tunnels used by these pests, once inside, they are killed by the trap. If you have moles in your garage, shed or other area surrounding your home, you can set mouse traps, which can also be effective in killing these pests. Set the traps according to the manufacturer's instructions and exterminate these pests.

Use A Shovel

Use a shovel to dig into the tunnels to turn over the soil and kill any moles you may find. A shovel can be effective in killing these pests, but it can be a bit inhumane to do it this way. It can be difficult to find the moles inside their tunnels, so using the shovel is one way to help get rid of them.

Use Deterrents

Use a deterrent such as a repellent such as moth balls, or another type of repellent to help keep these pests at bay and away from your yard. Drop the moth balls into a few of their tunnels. The odor will keep them away and get rid of them, sending them elsewhere to someone else's yard. You can find repellents and deterrents at your local hardware store, or wherever pest control products are sold.
